Dinky Dog was one of four segments on the 1978 series, The All New Popeye Hour. It was the only non-Popeye segment, the others being The Adventures of Popeye, Popeye’s Treasure Hunt and Popeye’s Sports Parade.

In the Dinky Dog segment, a giant mastiff named Dinky lived with two teenage girls, Sandy and Monica, and their uncle Dudley. Blond haired Sandy purchased Dinky as a pup after spotting him in a pet shop window. The tiny dog grew and grew, until its size became a continuing source of calamity. The enthusiastic canine couldn’t help but break, flatten, damage and otherwise vex his way into Monica and Dudley’s bad graces. Largely being the victims of Dinky’s blunders, Monica and Dudley jumped at any excuse to rid themselves of the pesky pet. By contrast, eternally optimistic Sandy adored Dinky without question, and did her best to smooth over any of the ill will resulting from Dinky’s disruptions.

In 1981 The All New Popeye Hour was shortened to a half-hour format and re-titled The Popeye and Olive Comedy Show. Dinky Dog was spun off into his own show, combining two Dinky Dog rerun segments per half-hour episode.
