On a far-off, mythical world, Princess Goleeta and her younger brother Zorn joined forces with a young man named Galtar to stop the usurper Tormack’s campaign of conquest. Rightful heir to the kingdom of Dindal, Goleeta sought to regain the throne and a powerful heirloom called the Sacred Shield, pillaged by Tormack when he conqured her lands and killed her parents. Galtar, from a distant land called Chad, met and joined forces with Goleeta while seeking revenge against Tormack for the death and destruction of his own parents and village.

Outmatched by Tormack and his ruthless horde of Gerza warriors, Galtar evened the odds a bit by obtaining a powerful weapon called the Golden Lance from a hermit named Ither. Born with a minor power of his own, Zorn had a “mind command” ability that allowed him to perform small feats of telekinesis. For Goleeta, the Sacred Shield protected its user by a force that repelled all powers. It would have been useful, if only Goleeta could get it back. As it was, it further served Tormack: through the magic of his sorcerer Zimm, the shield allowed Tormack to spy on Goleeta, knowing her location at any moment. It also served Tormack as a handy shield.

Galtar and Goleeta travelled the land on the back of Galtar’s horse-like steed Thork. Zorn had his own ride: a two-legged, bird-ish mode of transport named Kodo. Everywhere the group went they had to contend with a father and son dwarf team of opportunists named Rak and Tuk. Greedy and dishonest to the core, Rak and Tuk wouldn’t hesitate to betray anyone — including one another — for a handful of gold.

Galtar and the Golden Lance aired for one season as part of The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera. A total of twenty-one, half-hour episodes were produced.
