The crew of the Calico sailed the sea lanes of the world conducting scientific research. Captain Carl Majors helmed the vessel. The rest of the crew included Dr. Quinn Darien, her young nephew Pete Darien, jack-of-all-trades Brock Borden, who acted as research assistant/first mate, and a large baby mutant lizard named Godzooky.

Ideally, if you chance upon an inordinate number of gigantic, mutant monsters when sailing the Earth, having a gadget with a button you can press to summon a gigantic, mutant monster of your own would be a great asset. Luckily for Capt. Majors, he had just such a device. At any given time, when danger loomed he had the luxury of being able to press a button to gain the assistance of the 300-foot tall, fire-breathing, mutant monster of Japanese cinematic legend, Godzilla.

GodzillaGodzilla always arrived within moments, and never seemed to mind being called away from whatever he was doing. After a brief battle using his great size and strength, he slipped back into the sea, never staying for long. The connection between Capt. Majors and Godzilla, or between Godzilla and Godzooky was never explained, although it appeared Godzooky was some form of young version of Godzilla, albeit with the ability to fly.

Debuting in 1978, the half-hour Godzilla episodes played alongside episodes of Jana of the Jungle as part of The Godzilla Power Hour. The show lasted two months in this incarnation, stretching to ninety minutes by adding Jonny Quest reruns and changing its name to The Godzilla Super 90. Continuing in this trend, the show underwent numerous additional format changes in subsequent seasons.
