Flintstone Funnies was one of four segments on the half-hour series The Flintstone Kids, which told tales of The Flintstones characters as kids. In this alternate take on the franchise, the 10-year old versions of Fred, Barney, Wilma and Betty knew one another and were friends.
The main segment of the show followed the daily lives and adventures of the children. The Flintstone Funnies segment followed a similar formula, but let the kids’ imaginations run wild. What always began as an everyday situation, played out in their mind as an adventurous fantasy that parodied an existing movie. Their adventure ended when they came back to reality to face the real life circumstance resulting from their imaginary deeds.
In the first season of The Flintstone Kids, the Flintstone Funnies segment played alongside the segments Dino’s Dilemmas and Captain Caveman and Son during a half-hour broadcast, while the main Flintstone Kids segment filled out an entire episode during alternate weeks. In the show’s second season, the main Flintstone Kids segment was shortened in length, and took the place of the Flintstone Funnies segment, which was dropped from the series.
