DC Comics’ Aquaman — the world’s wettest superhero — ruled Atlantis and defended the seven seas from a bevy of unusual, underwater adversaries like The Fisherman and Black Manta. A native of the ocean, he used his incredible strength and unique telepathic ability to communicate with aquatic creatures of the deep and gain their assistance.

Junior companion Aqualad (a.k.a. Tadpole: Aquaman’s ward in the comics) joined in Aquaman’s adventures, along with a pet walrus named Tusky. The two rode to adventure on their giant seahorse steeds, Storm and Imp, and occasionally teamed with fellow Atlantean Mera (our hero’s wife in the comic book series) who mainly served as a damsel in distress.

In the series’ first season, Aquaman was the second-billed player on The Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure. The hour-long program consisted of individual, 7-minute story segments featuring The New Adventures of Superman, The Adventures of Superboy and Aquaman, padded with a rotating lineup of secondary segments starring the likes of Green Lantern, Hawkman, The Flash, The Atom, Teen Titans, and Justice League of America.

Aquaman got his own half-hour show after one season, but without any new episodes. In essence, it was the same show, but without the Superman and Superboy segments. The amphibious wonder later went on to co-star in the long-running Super Friends series, ensuring no water-based crimes went unpunished.
